Seven UAF students get funds to launch start-ups

TOBA TEK SINGH: Seven University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) students were provided funds to launch start-up companies under the the Student Start-up Business Centre, aimed to provide them with opportunities for business. Presiding over a meeting on Thursday, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan said that all possible steps are being taken to develop business skills among the students so that they become job providers, instead of job seekers. He said agriculture is facing immense challenges, necessitating adoption of modern methods. At the meeting, cheques were given UAF students Emaad Ahmed for ‘Remote Irrigation’, Muniba Javed for ‘Baby Food’, Maham Gul for ‘Interior Design’, Zain Abbas for ‘Pure Sense’, Ali Hasnain for ‘Agri Connect’, Hamza Ali for ‘Flora Artisan’ and Shayaan Arshad for ‘Infosmash’ startups. UAF Director Research Dr Imran Arshad, Director Business Incubation Center Dr Iftikhar Ali, Treasurer Syed Zeeshan Ashfaq Bukhary, Dr Khurram Zia, Dr Muhammad Naveed, Dr Saira Akhtar, Farooq Ahmed and Imran Munawar also attended the meeting. COP MURDERED: A constable of Jaranwala police was murdered by unidentified persons in his house at Chak 353-GB late on Wednesday. According to the FIR registered by Jaranwala Saddar police, under sections 302 and 34 of the PPC, the victim’s son Aqeel Hassan stated that Constable Naazir Hussain was asleep when three unidentified men entered their house after scaling the boundary wall. He said the attackers opened indiscriminate fire and escaped, leaving the constable dead on the spot. The police have started investigations. INJURED: At least 12 workers, including four women, were critically injured when a factory bus collided with a truck on Narwala Bypass Road near Chak Leelanwala, Faisalabad, on Thursday. The injured workers, identified as Ammar (28), Bilal (22), Usman (25), Bakhtiari, Tanweer (35), Abubakar (25), Mudassar (26), Hamza (25), Zahida, Rabia (34), Nazish Bibi (25) and Maafi Bibi (20). They were shifted to the Allied Hospital for treatment. In another incident, six persons, including four women, of a family were seriously injured whena van overturned after colliding with the divider on Shorkot Cantonment Road. ARRESTED: Peoples Colony, Faisalabad, police arrested a house help and recovered gold ornaments worth over Rs18 million she had allegedly stolen from the house of her ex-employer. A police official said the suspect, Sehar Fatima, worked at the house of a trader, Zubair, in Al-Najaf Colony, where she had stolen gold ornaments and disappeared. The police traced and arrested her, recovering the ornaments.
