Bus driver, owner booked in Fatehjang road accident

TAXILA: Fatehjang police on Wednesday registered a case against the bus driver, owner of the bus company and several others for their alleged involvement in the deadly accident on Hakla-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway (M-14) on Monday which claimed the lives of 12 people and left 21 injured. At least seven women and five men were killed while the injured included bus hostesses. The ill-fated bus was coming from Bahawalpur when it overturned near Thatti Syedan in Fatehjang due to the alleged carelessness of the bus driver. According to the police, a case has been registered with Fatehjang police station on the complaint of Inspector Tariq Abbas Khan of the Motorway police. Those named in the case include bus driver Tahir Mehmood, the bus owner and station manager of the private bus company. According to the FIR, the motorway police official claimed that as per policy, the long route public transport vehicle should consist of two bus drivers but the company deputed only one driver who fell asleep which led to the accident. Police have stated that they are conducting raids to arrest the nominated accused. Meanwhile, the local administration of Fatehjang handed over a toddler, who survived the fatal bus accident, to her father at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. The toddler belonging to Ahmedpur Sharqia and was travelling in the ill-fated bus with her mother who died in the accident. Moving scenes were witnessed when the toddler was reunited with her father.
