PML-N wins RCB by-election

RAWALPINDI: Ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)candidateon Thursday wonthe Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) bye-election in Ward 6. According to unofficial result announced by Returning Officer Haider Sujah,PML-NcandidateTariq Mehmood Rajpoot bagged 2,011 votes andwonthe election while Independent candidate Jibran Haider got 1,329 votes, PTI’ssupported candidatePirzada Mohammad Zeeshan secured 1,284, PPP’s Mohammad Adeel Azam got 900 votes, TLP candidate Malik Abdul Rauf got 705 votes and an independent candidate Ijaz Ahmed got 39 votes. PML-N Malik Mansoor Afsar elected RCB member in the election held in September 12, 2021. However, in 2024 general elections on February 8, he was elected as Member of Punjab Assembly from PP-15 and vacated the RCB seat. On Thursday, voters turnout was low in the ward-VI but the main contest was remained betweenPML-Nand PTI. According to unofficial result, total 20.59 percent votes polled in the election. Total votes in the ward-VI are 30,778. Total 6,338 votes polled on Thursday including 3,860 male and 2,478 female voters used their right to franchise. As many as 45 votes were rejected. Ruling PML-Nwonseven seats and two independentcandidates elected asRCBmembers while ruling PTI failed to get any seat from 10 wards of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board in 2021.
