Senate deputy chairman wants PMDC, Pims affairs streamlined

ISLAMABAD: Senate Deputy Chairman Sardar Syedaal Khan on Wednesday directed heads of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) to streamline issues of their institutions. Mr Khan held separate meetings with PMDC President Dr Rizwan Taj and Pims Executive Director Dr Rana Imran Sikander at the Parliament House. While appreciating the role of PMDC in the health sector, Sardar Syedaal Khan directed that registration process of health professionals be improved. He also emphasised that the guidelines of the PMDC should be implemented in institutions in peripheries, ensuring transparency. During his meeting with Pims executive director, Sardar Syedaal Khan said Pims was one of the most important hospitals of Pakistan. “Although it is a fact that the hospital has been facing burden of patients but at the same time patients have been facing difficulties. Most machines and equipment are out of order due to which patients find no way but to go outside the hospital and get tests done from private labs,” he said. Furthermore, the Senate deputy chairman suggested activating process of purchasing new equipment and improving the condition of wards. He said that it was unfortunate that people stood in queues and suggested to change the ongoing system. He claimed that it was top priority of the government to provide health facilities to masses.
