Media’s role stressed for national progress

SWABI: Women University Swabi Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mian Syed said that in today’s rapidly changing world, only those nations that utilised media in a positive and effective way could achieve economic development and prosperity. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the first media studio, which was established in collaboration between the varsity’s directorate of public relations and publications and the department of journalism. He stated that positive coverage of any institution made it stand out from others, and female students played a significant role in this process. Prof Syed emphasised that the role of women was crucial for the welfare of society and that they bore a significant responsibility to highlight social problems through the media and serve as a means of positive change. Prof Syed said that this initiative would not only enhance the students’ skills but also enable them to demonstrate these skills more effectively by understanding the requirements of the modern age. TWO KILLED: A man was killed when his rivals opened fire on him after he appeared before a court in the judicial complex. A passerby was also killed in the firing, police said. When contacted, the city police station official told Dawn that the deceased Mazhar Ali of Akhunkhel area had attended the court and was on his way home when opponents opened fire on him. As a result of indiscriminate firing, Mazhar Ali and a passerby identified as 22-year-old Fahad Khan killed on the spot. According to police report, four passersby Aamir Khan, Sohail Khan, Zainullah Khan and Farman Khan were also injured in the firing. The dead bodies and injured were taken to district headquarters hospital. The cause of the incident was stated to be an old enmity. The city police station registered an FIR and started investigation. Meanwhile, Ahmad Ali of Yar Hussain village was killed when his cousins opened fire on him. Yar Hussain police station said that the deceased’s cousins Mazhar Ali and Rashid Ali alleged killed him over some domestic dispute. The police are investigating.
