SUKKUR: A gang struck a teashop near Naich village of Kashmore town along the Indus Highway and took away a truck driver and two waiters at gunpoint on late Friday night. Onlookers told the police that the gang holding truck driver Latifullah and waiters Habibullah and Zaheer Ahmed Chachar at gunpoint, drove away into the riverine area of Kandhkot-Kashmore district. The police said that they chased the kidnappers upon receiving the information but could not reach them. Relatives of the kidnap victims and a large number of local residents and truckers held a demonstration in the middle of the highway near the village against the incident to block the road. According to Chachar’s family, a caller introducing himself as a member of the gang, said that the hostages would not be freed until the kidnappers’ [not named] certain relatives were released by police. Kashmore SHO Iqtidar Hussain Jatoi, along with a police party, proceeded to the venue of the demonstration and persuaded the protesters to clear the road. He assured them that the hostages would be safely rescued within the next couple of days.
