Balochistan boxers claim four golds at Quaid-e-Azam Games

ISLAMABAD: Boxers won four gold medals to lift Balochistan into third place in the Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games on Tuesday while Punjab continued to lead the medals tally here at the Pakistan Sports Complex. Punjab are leading the table with 138 medals (66 gold, 43 silver and 29 bronze medals) followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 72 medals (17 gold, 25 silver and 30 bronze). Third-placed Baluchistan have earned 51 medals (14 gold, 12 silver and 25 bronze) so far. In the boxing event, Balochistan’s Samiullah defeated Sindh’s Bilal Qambrani to win gold medal in the 48kg light flyweight final. Rehman Shah of Balochistan overcame Gilgit-Baltistan’s Sabir Mohammad in the 54kg decider. In the 60kg lightweight final, Balochistan’s Ajman outclassed Muhammad Ali of Punjab while Adul Rafay of Balochistan beat Sindh’s Zarar to win the 67kg welterweight gold. Umar Raza Khan of Punjab defeated Balochistan’s Mohammad Idress in the 51kg flyweight final while Rohail Ahmed Khan, also of Punjab, downed Baluchistan’s Mohammad Zohaib in the 57kg final. In 63.5kg light welterweight category final, Mujahid of Sindh won gold defeating Punjab’s Ibrahim Subhani. Another Sindh boxer, Kamran, won the 71kg light middleweight gold beating KP’s Hamza Khan. The finals of wrestling and karate were also held on Tuesday. Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which have a total of 24 medals, won one gold while Gilgit-Baltistan are still without a gold at the national event. So far, the GB players have claimed 12 medals (two silver and 10 bronze). Over 2,000 athletes from across country including AJK and GB are participating in the Games, which conclude on Thursday.
