SARGODHA: Eleventh convocation of the University of Sargodha (UoS) was held on Thursday to award degrees to 27,538 graduates across various disciplines. Sixty-nine per cent of the graduates were women, highlighting the institution’s commitment to inclusivity. Nadeem Afzal Chan, former chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, presided over the ceremony as the guest of honour and nominee of the chancellor, alongside Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas and deans of eight faculties. As many as 55 PhD degrees, 553 MS/MPhil/MSc (Hons)/LLM, 8,345 MA/MSc, 8,720 BS/BSc (Hons)/BBA and 9,865 BA/BSc/ADP degrees were awarded to the students from faculties of agriculture, arts and humanities, computing and information technology, engineering and technology, medical and health sciences, pharmacy, science and social sciences. Moreover, 363 students with distinctions were honored with medals. VC Abbas highlighted the university’s achievements over the past two years, including advancement in global rankings, campus solarization, launch of a student facilitation centre and international collaborations. He urged graduates to use their education to address global challenges and contribute to a sustainable future. Mr Chan praised the graduates, faculty and leadership of the university for their contribution to academic excellence and societal progress. “The University of Sargodha stands as one of Punjab’s finest institutions, setting an example through inclusivity and innovation. Graduates must lead with honesty, integrity, and a commitment to building a better society,” he remarked. He also pledged support for reclaiming the university’s medical college, terming it a vital asset for the region. PFA: The Punjab Food Authority seized 320kg of unhealthy and unhygienic meat from a butcher’s vehicle supplying meat to Sargodha city and its surroundings at night and destroyed it. According to sources, the PFA team, along with police, recovered 320kg of unhygienic and unhealthy meat from a butcher’s vehicle. After destroying the meat, the vehicle was handed over to police and a case was registered against the suspect. CAMPAIGN: Traffic Police has launched a campaign to create awareness about traffic rules and DSP Traffic Abdul Rauf Gondal distributed pamphlets containing traffic rules among the citizens to inform them about road safety. He said the traffic police had launched the awareness campaign but during the drive, parents and schoolteachers could play a key role. He asked the students to follow the helmet and traffic rules while riding motorcycles and urged the parents not to allow their minor children to ride motorcycles. The DSP, along with other officers, distributed pamphlets about road safety on important roads of the city.
