HYDERABAD: The SSP of Hyderabad suspended the additional SHO of B-Section police station in Latifabad and ordered a probe against the SHO over the allegations of high-handedness levelled by the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) at a demonstration held on Wednesday outside the SSP Hyderabad office. JI activists gathered to protest police violence against the administrator of Al-Khidmat hospital a few days ago. Leading the protest, JI district emir Hafiz Tahir Majeed said record showed that 2024 witnessed a sharp increase in the crime graph of Hyderabad and despite a ban on Indian gutka and other tobacco items, they were openly sold from cabins across the city. Accusing police of receiving extortion in the city, he said that officers with fair reputation remained posted in Hyderabad who had served people. He alleged that the additional SHO of the B-section police Latifabad was not being taken to task because he earned money for police. He claimed that it was an open secret that police stations were auctioned with the result that crimes like robberies, sale of narcotics and gambling had become a norm. The Jamaat leader said the Al Khidmat hospital was providing inexpensive healthcare facilities to the people of the city and that performance of the hospital had unnerved some elements and they hatched conspiracies against it. He stated a deputy director of the Anti-Narcotics Force was part of that intrigue. He challenged that any institution could check working of the hospital and standard operating procedures (SOPs). He added that the incident in which hospital administrator Furqan Hafeez was subjected to violence by Additional SHO Ali Nawaz Korai was just one instance. JI naib district emir Aqeel Ahmed Khan, general secretary Hanif Sheikh, Abdul Qayyum and former emir Mushtaq Ahmed Khan also spoke on the occasion. Later, the SSP Hyderabad talked to JI emir Hafiz Tahir Majeed on phone. According to a JI’s press release, the SSP had suspended Korai and his team while an inquiry was ordered against SHO Tahir Mughal. SP City Iftikhar Buriro produced notification regarding the action taken by the SSP during the protest. Later the protest ended peacefully.
