KARACHI: A young man was shot dead in North Nazimabad in the small hours of Saturday morning, police said. They said that it was not clear whether it was a targeted killing, robbery-resistance or related to some monetary dispute. The Hyderi Market police said that Salman Anwar, 30, was heading home on a motorcycle at around 3:45am when he was shot by armed assailants at the Five Star flyover. He sustained a single bullet wound in the chest and died on the spot. Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said the victim was associated with the catering business and lived in Liaquatabad. He said the assailants took away the victim’s pistol, but not his cell phone and other valuables. The police were investigating the case from different angles including a possible robbery attempt and monetary dispute as well. Police on Saturday announced the arrest of three suspected militants and claimed that they were involved in a recent targeted killing case. SSP-Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that suspects Manzar Abbas, Asif Mohammed and Munawar Aijaz were involved in the Nov 13 targeted killing of Abu Hashim Haider in the Ancholi area. He said that the Taimuria police arrested them and recovered three pistols, including the 9mm pistol used in the killing. “The held suspects are affiliated with an outlawed organisation, which is being operated from abroad,” said a police statement. The suspects told the police that they wanted to paint the murder as that of robbery-resistance. Meanwhile, two young men were shot at and wounded near the Machine Tool Factory on Saturday.
