MARDAN: Special Assistant to CM on Prisons Humayun Khan said that solarisation of prisons in the province would save millions of rupees in terms of electricity bills. During a visit to Mardan jail on Thursday, he said that the provincial government was taking steps to develop prison system on modern lines. He said that an e-marketing system for the products made by inmates in the jails was being devised and would be online soon. Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru and MPAs Iftikhar Ali Mashwani, Abdul Salam Afridi, IG Prisons Usman Mahsood and others were also present on the occasion. He claimed that inmates in the province’s various jails were receiving training in a range of occupational skills, such as computer use, tailoring, and the marble industry. Humayun Khan said that the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority would issue certificates and diplomas to those inmates who acquired various skills. They would also be eligible to benefit from the provincial government’s skilled youth and Ehsaas Qarz e Hasna scheme after their release, he added.
