KARACHI: Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, last night [Oct 4] denied having received any communication from Mr Nehru for settlement of outstanding issues between the two Dominions peacefully, as the latter had stated in his San Francisco speech. The Prime Minister presumed that Mr Nehru was probably referring to his speeches in the East Punjab in which he also incited his audiences to war against Pakistan. The Prime Minister said as long ago as Sept 28 he had welcomed Mr Nehru’s statement that all outstanding disputes between India and Pakistan should be settled by peaceful methods. “Verbal professions by themselves, however, mean little unless they are backed by concrete actions,” Mr Liaquat Ali Khan said. [Meanwhile, according to the Dawn staff correspondent,] the three-storied Naz Cinema building on Mohammad Ali Jinnah Road, Karachi, caught fire on Friday morning [Oct 4] and burnt merrily for 20 minutes without anybody informing the Fire Brigade. About Rs two lakhs worth of damage is estimated and most of the furniture and fittings were burnt to ashes or charred. The cause of the fire is unknown.
