ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) Sunday said it caught 228 individuals pilfering electricity and imposed fines worth Rs20.8 million since the beginning of the ongoing month. Iesco Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Naeem Jan revealed that over 71,000 electricity metres were inspected and 15 of them were found tampered. He said 138 FIRs were registered while 28 alleged power pilferers were arrested by the police. He said various Iesco teams conducted operations against electricity thieves across all operational circles falling under the utility company’s ambit. The CEO acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Energy and the law enforcement agencies in Iesco’s efforts to curb electricity theft. He emphasised that all possible measures were being taken to eradicate the menace. Mr Naeem also urged the public to join the national campaign by reporting electricity theft. He asked consumers to fulfil their national duty by providing information through their dedicated helpline or lodging a complaint with its monitoring cell.
