LAKKI MARWAT: Police have increased snap checking in parts of Lakki Marwat district ahead of the five-day anti-polio campaign to maintain law and order. A police official told Dawn on Friday that special checkpoints had temporarilybeen set up along major roads and in urban and rural localities to check the movement of miscreants. He said the sub-divisional police officers and SHOs had been directed to ensure their presence at checkpoints in their respective areas. The official said that DPO Rahim Hussain had issued special instructions to the subordinate police officials to be vigilant and keep an eye on the movements of miscreants. The official said that the five-day polio eradication campaign was going to start on Dec 16 and the police’s actions against anti-social elements would ensure the peaceful holding of the drive. He said police had formulated a comprehensive and foolproof security plan for the protection of vaccinators and other officials involved in the polio eradication initiative. Also on Friday, Bannu deputy commissioner Abdul Hameed Khan along with district police officer Ziaduddin Ahmad launched the anti-polio drive by vaccinating several children in a ceremony at the deputy commissioner’s compound. A health official briefed the deputy commissioner about the arrangements and said polio workers had been directed to reach out to every child for immunising them against the crippling disease.
