SWABI: The harvesting season of the sugarcane crop and the making of jaggery (gur) are in full swing across the district. A visit to the sugarcane fields in Maneri revealed that growers were in a hurry to complete the harvesting and gur-making process, and they were hiring additional labourers for the task. According to Asif Khan, a resident of Maneri Bala village, farmers should complete their work quickly for two reasons. First, it has been observed that rains typically start in December, halting both the harvesting and jaggery-making processes. Second, the current market price of gur reflects the high demand. Another farmer, Zarsheed Khan, said that the market had been booming. He explained that if they had completed the harvesting and jaggery-making work on time, they would have earned a good income. Khalid Khan, district president of the Kisan Board, said that farmers knew their work better and understood that if they completed their task on time, they could earn the maximum profit.
