DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Jamaat-i-Islami former chief Sirajul Haq has warned of potential threats to democracy if the government and the opposition fail to engage in result-oriented dialogue. He said this while speaking at a training session organised by Jamaat at the District Council Hall here on Sunday. Criticising Pakistan’s political and economic systems, he stressed the need for introducing Sharia-based governance in the country. Mr Haq labelled the country’s democratic process a ‘drama’, alleging that global powers determined Pakistan’s leadership. “We are not truly free; our elections and governance are influenced by global colonialism.” He condemned the economic policies dictated by the International Monetary Fund, stating: “The IMF controls our economy, determines trade policies, and sets prices for exports and goods.” He described the usury-based system as a “declaration of war against God and the Prophet (PBUH),” asserting that meaningful reform was impossible under such a framework. Mr Haq criticised Pakistan’s education system, claiming it was shaped by foreign influences, failing to produce teachers capable of instilling moral and national values. He underscored the need for a Sharia-based governance model, rejecting secular systems. “Our struggle is for the command of God and His Messenger, not material abundance,” he claimed, referencing the historical lessons of Karbala. He reiterated his party’s rejection of ‘power-sharing offers’ from political leaders like President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stressing that Jamaat sought governance rooted in religion and justice. Addressing Pakistan’s challenges, Sirajul Haq said: “The problem is not a lack of resources but the rule of corrupt elites who have billions in foreign banks.” He also criticised the establishment for ‘dividing’ political parties and fostering disunity. Highlighting security concerns, he pointed to the recent violence in Parachinar, and called for national unity. “If Jamaat comes to power, we will resolve these issues and bring peace to the people,” he vowed. The event also featured speeches from other Jamaat leaders, including former district emir Zahid Mohibullah Advocate and Maulana Najmuddin Siraj. Cultural and religious performances also marked the occasion. Several prominent local leaders and officials were also present at the event.
