PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has appointed journalist Mohammad Irshad and Arshad Ahmed Advocate as commissioners to the Right to Information Commission. A notification issued here said the appointments were made under clause (a) and clause (b) pf sub-section 4 of section 24 of KP Right to Information Act, 2013. It said that in terms of section 24 (5) of KP Right to Information Act, Mr Irshad and Mr Ahmed shall hold the office for a term of three years or reaching the age of 65 years, whichever is occurred earlier. The provincial cabinet had approved the appointments in its last meeting. Mukhtar Ahmed Ali, the executive director of Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives, had taken the prolonged delay in appointment of both the commissioners to the Peshawar High Court. In its verdict on Nov 16, the bench had directed the government to appoint the information commissioners within a fortnight.
