Over 13,000 tickets issued to Pindi public transporters for violations

RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Police on Thursday continued to issue tickets to public transports for different violations, besides impounding them. On the special orders of the City Police Officer Rawalpindi, 13,346 public service vehicles have been issued tickets since Aug 25-- 6,534 for violation of route permit, 5748 for violation of fitness certificate, 1,064 for driving without licence. The documents for suspension of registration of 28 vehicles were sent to the departments concerned and cases were also registered against the drivers of 52 public transport vehicles for different violations,2,254 vehicles were impounded in different police stations besides collecting fines of more than Rs10.44 million. The city traffic police have also started a crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles from September 14, as these vehicles cause smog, and issued 12,118 tickets to the drivers of such vehicles so far during this special campaign. A fine of Rs20.44 million was also imposed. While in the ongoing campaign regarding the safety of school vans by the City Traffic Police, 8,309 vehicles have been checked so far. The drivers of 3,216 vehicles were issued tickets with a fine of Rs3.8 million, and impounded 169 vehicles. Despite launching a crackdown on public service vehicles, traffic rules’ violation has been increasing day by day in the garrison city. Earlier on Wednesday, “the second open day” was held at the City Traffic Police Headquarters Rawalpindi aimed to help bridge the gap between the public and the police. A spokesman for the city traffic police said that more than 125 students and teachers of Concordia College and Roots College attended the open day at traffic headquarters Race Course. The purpose of the visit was to make the students aware of the day-to-day affairs of the traffic police and the services of the traffic police to help bridge the gap between the public and the police. On reaching the traffic headquarters Race Course, they were welcomed by the DSP traffic headquarters and other staff. Addressing the ceremony, he said the purpose of organising this open day is to raise awareness about traffic rules among the young generation. The young generation has to take the reins of this country, so awareness and implementation of traffic laws like other laws is very important for their bright future. They also took the responsibility of conveying this message to their homes, friends and circle of friends, after that the students were given a visit to various branches of the traffic headquarters and they were informed about the daily affairs of the traffic police. Briefing was given regarding the performance of the police, and they were inspected various items, during which the students took a lot of interest in the daily use items of the traffic police. Students also participated in the broadcast and appreciated the road ready project of the Education Wing. They expressed their interest in the new scooties purchased by the CTO Rawalpindi for the Women on Wheels programme. They also took interest in the information about their training. Finally, the teachers appreciated the efforts of the City Traffic Police Rawalpindi and thanked the CTO Rawalpindi.
