Man kills sister for ‘honour’

SAHIWAL: A mother of three was allegedly shot dead by her brother in the name of “honour” at 339/EB village in Arifwala tehsil on Monday night. As per police sources, the victim, Rukhsana Wattoo, was preparing dinner for her children when her brother Abu Sufiyan stormed into the kitchen and opened fire. As a result, Rukhsana sustained two bullets and died instantly, while the assailant, along with his accomplices, Imran alias Bubloo and an unidentified man, fled the scene on a motorcycle. The incident was reported to the police by a neighbour, Rahmat Ullah. The police arrived at the scene and collected forensic evidence. Rukhsana’s body was later shifted to the Arifwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, for a postmortem examination. Arifwala Saddar police SHO Abid Mohar says the victim’s husband, Waseem, had been doing a job in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the last four years, while she was living in the village, with her three children. About the motive of the murder, he said that Rukhsana’s brother, the suspect, had been sent a video clip by someone, allegedly showing her in a compromising position with a man. The SHO says that it appears to be a case of “honour” killing, adding that further investigation is under way. A murder FIR has been registered against the three suspects, he said SUSPECT KILLED: Qaboola police claimed that an alleged dacoit was killed and a policeman injured during an encounter near 20/EB village in Arifwala tehsil on Tuesday. Police say they received a call on 15 helpline that dacoits were looting people near 20/EB village. On receiving the call, a police party led by Qaboola SHO Zaman Rasheed rushed to the spot. On seeing the police party, the dacoits took positions in a maize field and started firing at the policemen, who retaliated in their defence. The police say that during the crossfire, Assistant Sub-Inspector Murshid Shah sustained a bullet injury to his right shoulder, while later a suspect, identified as Nisar Daha, was found lying dead in the field. Police recovered a pistol, a rifle and bullets from the field. The injured cop was rushed to the Arifwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment. Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Wallayat told Dawn Daha was nominated in more than 20 cases of heinous crimes registered at different police stations. The DPO also inquired after the injured policeman at the hospital. ARRESTED: The Anti-Corruption Establishment, Sahiwal, arrested a municipal corporation (MC) supervisor for taking Rs650,000 from two persons on pretext of giving jobs. The ACE registered two separate cases against Hameed Masih on the complaint of Abdur Rehman and Musarat Bibi. Reports said Musarat had given Rs500,000 for the job of her son in police and Abdur Rehman gave Rs150,000 for induction of his son into municipal corporation as a worker. The amount was taken by Hameed before he slipped away. Both complainants filed an application with the ACE which arrested the suspect.
