LAHORE: Powerful performances by Pakistani and American artists were the highlight of the second day of Ajoka’s Dosti International Theatre Festival at Alhamra on Sunday. The day was dedicated to the people of Palestine and artists presented dramatic readings based on testimonies of Gazan youth. The artists included novelist and actor Faryal Ali Gauhar, Saadia Sarmad, Hafeez Tahir, Ahmad Bilal and Aisha Bilal. A significant feature of this event was the participation of US artists who also read Gaza Monologues to express solidarity with the people of Palestine. Monica Hunken and Leah Bachar from Al Limited Collective had travelled from New York to participate in this tribute. The moving and inspiring dramatic renderings were followed by revolutionary musical tribute by Laal Band. Lead singer Taimur Rahman was joined by Mehwish in singing poetry by Faiz and Jalib written for the Palestinian cause. Dancer Sheema Kermani also joined Laal Band with an inspirational performance. The evening ended by Khawar Ali Qawal and party singing poetry of Allama Iqbal. On Monday, Karachi’s Tehrik-e-Niswan will stage play “ Manto mera dost”.
