Pilac announces recipients of book award

LAHORE: The Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture (Pilac) has announced the list of recipients of its ‘Best Book Award 2023’in the categories of prose, poetry and research, celebrating exceptional contributions to Punjabi literature. These awards were announced following evaluation by a distinguished panel of judges. In the poetry category, the first prize was awarded to Qabil Jafferi for his book “Apaar”, a work lauded for its profound emotional depth and artistry. The second prize was claimed by Muhammad Imran Sehar for “Chup Te Mein”, while Hafiz Sadiq Fida secured the third prize for “Wah”, a collection praised for its innovative style and poignant themes. The judges panel, comprising Dr Sughra Sadaf, Dr Navid Shahzad, and Rai Muhammad Khan Nasir, commended the winners for their literary excellence and creative expression. Under the prose category, Naseer Ahmed received the first prize for “Ki Patar Da Jeevna”, an exploration of human experiences and resilience. The second prize was awarded to Aakash for “Aangan”, a compelling narrative reflecting the intricacies of relationships. Noted writer Neelam Ahmed Bashir was awarded the third prize for “Kingrey Novel”, lauded for its unique storytelling approach. Judges Dr Nasir Baloch, Ilyas Ghumman, and Parveen Malik praised the originality and depth of these contributions. In the research category, Dr Akbar Ali Ghazi earned the first prize for his scholarly work “Qissa Sohni Mahinwal Di Riwayat”, which sheds new light on a timeless Punjabi folktale. The second prize went to Qaisar Iqbal for “Film Te Lahore”, an insightful study of the interplay between cinema and Punjabi culture. Dr Husnain Sahir was awarded the third prize for “Si Harfi Mian Muhammad Shafi Akhtar Dhangarvi - Tahqiq o Tadveen,” a meticulously researched contribution to Punjabi literary history. Esteemed scholars Dr Nabila Rahman, Dr Abdul Razzaq Shahid, and Dr Ibad Nabeel Shad, who were the judges, applauded the depth and rigor of these research works.
