KHYBER: A World Children’s Day awareness and sensitisation event was held at an educational institution in Landi Kotal on Wednesday. The tehsil chairman, additional assistant commissioner (AAC), officials, educators, parents, and community members were among the important stakeholders who attended the ceremony and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting and protecting children’s rights. Children gave lively performances at the event, showcasing their abilities and expressing their opinions on child rights through songs, poems, skits, talks, and tableaus. The speakers highlighted the fundamental tenets of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the event’s goals. They highlighted that the government and the community were obligated to carry out their promises to child rights with sincerity and dedication after Pakistan ratified the UNCRC in 1990. The children’s energy and potential were praised by Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid, who also called on the community to increase awareness and take significant steps to defend children’s rights. : A list of 489 barred national identity cards was released by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) centre for additional examination by the local administration and security forces. According to district administration sources, Nadra banned these CNICs for a number of reasons, such as a lack of pertinent documentation, an incomplete family tree, a name registered in another family, involvement in questionable activities, or ties to prohibited organisations. The Nadra officials said that some of the Afghans who had been residing in Landi Kotal since 1978 were among the members of the Zakhakhel, Shinwari, Shilmani, and Pasedkhel tribes whose CNICs were blocked. Tribesmen from Zakhakhel and Pasedkhel were the most blocked. According to them, the District Level Committee (DLC) was established by the district administration in coordination with Nadra and the security services to examine all of the CNICs that were stopped and determine the true causes behind the blockage of these crucial national documents. The officials said that the newly established committee was directed to speed up the examination procedure in order to assist the legitimate CNIC holders and quickly restore their blocked cards.
