ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary panel on Friday stressed the importance of transparency, adherence to deadlines, and ensuring a fair and inclusive electoral process of the Pakistan Football Federation in order to safeguard the future of the sport in the country. The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter Provincial Coordination which met here in Islamabad with MNA Muhammad Sana Ullah Khan Mastikhel in the chair, discussed the issues of long-due elections of the PFF that are to be held by the FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committee. PFF NC chairman Haroon Malik briefed the panel regarding the ongoing electoral process aimed at restoring the democratic structure of football governance in Pakistan. He provided an update on the district and provincial elections, which will lead to the presidential elections next month. The standing committee, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the provided briefing, because the working paper was not provided to the Committee members in advance. Consequently, the parliamentary panel directed the NC chairman to submit a comprehensive report on the electoral progress of the PFF in both hard and soft copies within seven days. The meeting was adjourned, with the expectation that the NC will meet its obligations and facilitating free and fair elections.
