MUZAFFARABAD: Acting on complaints, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Authority has banned the sale of food products from a factory operating within the territorial limits of the federal capital, an official said on Monday. Earlier, the AJK Food Authority had issued a license to the company, Impressive Foods, for the sale of its products after receiving samples and noting that the company had already been licensed by the Islamabad Food Authority, said Abdul Hameed Kiani, the authority’s secretary. However, the license was revoked under orders from the vice chairman of the AJK Food Authority Sardar Sohail Azam, following complaints from district administrations and consumers about the quality of the products supplied to Muzaffarabad, Haveli, and other remote districts, he added. Mr Kiani said that food safety officers had seized the company’s products from the markets and were directed to determine whether these items met health and hygiene standards. The vice chairman also instructed food safety technologists to submit a report after inspecting the company’s manufacturing unit, somewhere in Tarnol, Mr Kiani said.
