HARIPUR: Workers and local leaders of a religious party staged a protest in Tarnava Khanpur on Sunday against the police for their alleged partisan approach, demanding the immediate transfer of SHO Khanpur. Protesters from all over the tehsil assembled at the Tarnava bazaar and organised a demonstration under the leadership of Maulana Umar Tahir, tehsil president of the Ahl e Sunnat Wal Jammat Khanpur branch. The demonstrators were brandishing placards with anti-police slogans. The Khanpur police were accused by the speakers of filing criminal charges against their workers. They asserted that their workers were included in the proceedings due to sectarian pressure from certain powerful individuals. The speakers called for SHO Khanpur to be moved out of the district right away. Additionally, the demonstrators called on the army chief to conduct a military action in Kurram Agency. Extra Assistant Commissioner Faraz Qureshi and senior police officials arrived at the protest site and assured the demonstrators that their legitimate grievances would be addressed in accordance with the law. The demonstrators were informed by the authorities that a meeting would be held next week to hear their complaints. Following assurances from the administrative authorities, the demonstrators dispersed peacefully.
