OKARA: During an alleged police encounter, a suspect was injured in the “firing by his own accomplices” on Tuesday night on Okara-Faisalabad-Raipur (40/GD) link road. As per the first information report (FIR) registered by Gogera police, a night patrol team, headed by SHO Inspector Mahr Muhammad Ismail, was patrolling on the link 40/GD road. As the police van reached near a control shed (poultry farm), some armed men opened fire on the vehicle. The police returned the fire and repeatedly asked the criminals on megaphone to surrender, but they did not. Meanwhile a team of Elite Force and personnel of another patrolling party reached the spot on the call of the SHO Ismail. After a crossfire that lasted nearly half an hour, the firing from the criminals’ side stopped. The police carried out a search operation, with the help of heavy lights, finding one of the suspects lying injured. On being taken in custody, the injured man was identified as Omer, a resident Shekjoo Moor village. As per the police, the injured suspect said that he, his nephew, Farooq, and their three unidentified accomplices were planning to loot passersby. Police recovered a repeater shotgun, 20 live cartridges and Rs3,000 cash from the injured suspect and shifted him to the district headquarters hospital. On the report of the SHO, a case under sections 399, 402, 353, 324 and 186 of the PPC and section 23-2(a) of the Arms Amendment Act 2015 and section 20 of the Arms Ordinance 1965, has been registered against the suspect, the police said.
