LAHORE: The Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education has sent a requisition to the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) for the recruitment of 1,092 new consultants in 45 different categories. The requisition has been sent for recruitment of 200 dental surgeons, 96 senior registrars of anesthesia, 95 of cardiology, 92 of surgery, 60 of obstetrics and gynecology, 53 of medicine, 46 of cardiac surgery and 44 senior registrars of orthopedic surgery. Similarly, the department seeks hiring of 38 senior registrars of pediatric surgery, 33 of pediatric medicine, 32 of neurosurgery, 35 of radiology, 22 assistant professors (APs) of physiology, 20 APs of obstetrics and Gynaecology, 20 APs of biochemistry, 15 senior registrars of pediatric hematology, 11 APs of pharmacology, 19 senior registrars of ENT and 16 senior registrars of plastic surgery. Requisition has also been sent for 10 senior registrars of neurology, 11 of cardiac anesthesia, 18 of psychiatry, 17 of ophthalmology and 17 senior registrars of nephrology, 15 associate professors of anesthesia, 9 senior registrars of pulmonology, 7 senior registrars of pediatric radiology, 6 senior registrars of pediatric neurology, 6 senior registrars of pediatric ophthalmology, 4 senior registrars of radiotherapy, 4 senior registrars of pediatric urology, 3 senior registrars of pediatric anesthesia and 2 senior registrars of pediatric cardiac anesthesia care. According to the list, the requisition also includes 4 senior registrars of kidney transplant, 2 senior registrars of pediatric ENT, 1 senior registrar of pediatric pulmonology, 1 senior registrar of pediatric orthopedic, 1 associate professor of pediatric urology, associate professor of pediatric plastic surgery, 1 associate professor of critical care, 1 associate professor of infectious diseases, 1 professor of chemical pathology, 1 associate professor of pediatric anesthesia and 1 senior registrar of pulmonology. Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has declared it a major initiative, saying that recently recruitment process of 3,000 nurses has been completed through the PPSC. He said that the recruitment would help overcome the human resource shortage in the government hospitals of Punjab. Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood said the recruitment of new doctors and nurses will bring about an improvement in health services delivery and patient care in the province.
