CHARSADDA: At least 109 women lose their lives daily across the country to deadly breast cancer, and only timely diagnosis and treatment can help reduce the alarming death rate. These views were expressed by Bacha Khan University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Zahid Hussain while addressing a breast cancer awareness seminar organised in collaboration with Pink Ribbon. On this occasion, Bacha Khan University registrar Dr Aizaz Ahmed Khan, Pink Ribbon’s focal person Dr Amna and general surgeon of Al-Khidmat Foundation Hospital Dr Naila along with a large number of students participated in the seminar. While addressing the awareness seminar, Prof Dr Zahid Hussain stated that breast cancer was a dangerous disease that needed to be discussed openly, with efforts to raise awareness among women in society. He emphasised that only by spreading maximum awareness could individuals protect themselves from this life-threatening disease. He also highlighted the importance of promoting breast cancer awareness at the university level. Due to poverty, social pressure, and lack of awareness, 109 women lose their lives in Pakistan every day. With about 40,000 to 90,000 new cases annually, the situation is undoubtedly dangerous. : DPO Masood Ahmed, while briefing media persons, claimed that during the last four months, the police had arrested 1,205 individuals wanted by the police in serious cases. He stated that a huge quantity of illegal weapons had been recovered from the possession of 46 international ice smugglers, while 739 accused, including the 46 smugglers, were arrested in drug cases. A total of 155kg hashish, 240kg ice, 4kg heroin, 4.940kg opium, and 77 litres of alcohol were recovered from their possession. He mentioned that operations against criminals were still ongoing, and Charsadda would be cleansed of drug peddlers, including ice smugglers, while anti-social elements would be dealt with an iron hand.
