KARACHI: An amount of Rs624.6 million, recovered from different provincial departments and officers after objections to audit reports were raised by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Sindh Assembly, has been deposited in the treasury, it emerged on Friday. Sources said Director General of Audit Sindh Kamran Hashmi submitted to the PAC the details of the recovered amount in the past five months. It may be noted that only Rs500,000 had been recovered by the PAC over the past five years. After being elected as the PAC chairman this year, Nisar Khuhro held a record number of meetings of the PAC and the PAC secretariat had issued instructions on irregularities in different provincial government departments. Talking to Dawn, the PAC chairman said that misappropriation of public tax money and financial irregularities in the provincial government departments would not be tolerated and action would be taken in any department where financial irregularities were identified.
