Woman beaten up allegedly by son-in-law dies

RAWALPINDI: A woman who was badly injured after being beaten allegedly by her son-in-law died after struggling for her life in a hospital on Thursday. Nasir Ali, a resident of Chiniot and presently residing in Saddar Bairooni area, lodged an FIR with the police saying that he was at his workplace when his daughter Saima came to him and informed that her husband Shahid had a quarrel with her. She also told her father that Shahid struck her mother’s head with a baton, knocking her out, as her mother Kausar Bibi attempted to stop him. Nasir said in the FIR that shortly afterwards he rushed to his house and found his wife lying unconscious and bleeding. The victim was shifted to the hospital where she died on Thursday. Meanwhile, a man was gunned down allegedly by his rival over a petty dispute in Kallar Syedan. Mohammad Ghafoor, brother of the deceased, lodged an FIR with the police saying that his brother, Mohammad Jamal, exchanged hot words with Kamran on Wednesday. However, the issue was settled at that time. He further said that he and his brother Jamal and his friend Hassan were returning to Kallar Syedan from Pindori on a motorcycle when they found Kamran with three other persons carrying pistols and batons standing near a bus stand and challenging them. He said in the FIR that Kamran fired gunshots at his brother Jamal, killing him. The alleged killer escaped from the scene.
