Lakki Marwat jail inmates demand relief in power cuts

LAKKI MARWAT: The inmates of Lakki Marwat district jail have demanded reduction in power cuts. They made the demand while talking to additional assistant commissioner Azmat Ali Khan Afridi, who paid a visit to the jail on Friday. Mr Afridi visited the jail on the instructions of deputy commissioner Zeeshan Abdullah and additional DC Sikandar Khan under the chief minister’s public service agenda. The visit was aimed to know the problems faced by inmates and take them up with relevant departments for their quick redressal. The additional assistant commissioner inspected various portions of the prison, including the kitchen, dispensary and juvenile section. He also checked security arrangements and held a brief meeting with the jail authorities. Also seek fumigation to keep them safe from dengue, malaria On the occasion, the inmates demanded installation of television sets in the barracks and reducing the duration of power cuts. They also demanded anti-mosquito spray so as to keep them safe from dengue and other vector-borne diseases. Mr Afridi assured them that the district administration would approach quarters concerned to resolve their problems. He directed the jail authorities to ensure provision of all permitted facilities to the inmates. Seven dengue cases were registered in Lakki during the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 207, and prompting the health authorities to speed up vector-control activities and community awareness sessions. An official said the district recorded 207 dengue cases in September, October and November with 73 patients having travel history. He said the number of patients affected by the locally transmitted virus was 134. “Of total cases, 197 patients have recovered, three admitted to isolation ward set up at the District Headquarters Hospital and seven isolated at their homes,” he said. He said that no dengue-related death had been reported from any health facility from across the district. He said that dengue control and prevention activities were underway in parts of the district. “During the last 24 hours, the health workers inspected 161 houses and 123 outdoor sites and also carried out case response activities with distribution of insecticide treated nets as part of the plan to eliminate mosquito breeding places, remove stagnant water and sensitise people, especially women, to adhere to precautions,” the official said. He said community awareness sessions were also being held. He said the health department was also carrying out fumigation in both the urban and rural areas.
