SAHIWAL: City police recovered the body of an unidentified young woman packed in a sack from the Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC) near the railway station bridge on Wednesday night. The victim, around 30-year old, was found with a rope around her neck and heavy stones in the sack. The authorities responded to a tip-off and retrieved the body from the stagnant, polluted water of the canal, which has been closed for over a month. Preliminary investigations suggest the woman was strangled before her body was dumped in the canal to ensure it remained submerged. The body, estimated to be over four days old, has been sent to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital for autopsy. A murder case has been registered under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Akram. Further investigation is under way.
