LAKKI MARWAT: Bannu Regional Police Officer Imran Shahid has asked people from all walks of life to play an effective role in eliminating the menace of drugs from society. He was addressing a seminar held in Bannu the other day on the premises of University of Science and Technology. The seminar was arranged on the directives of provincial government to prevent drug abuse and sensitise students about its hazardous effects. Students, faculty members, parents, educationists and local elders attended the seminar. The regional police chief stressed the need for collective efforts to eliminate drug abuse and cleanse educational institutions of it. He said that awareness sessions in schools, colleges and universities were part of the drive to highlight devastating effects of drug abuse on human health and free campuses from the menace completely. He said that police launched an anti-drug awareness drive in educational institutions to tell students that besides bringing humiliation, the drug abuse would also destroy their future. “Under the supervision of District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed, police are actively engaged in an offensive against drug barons in the area,” he claimed. He called upon students to protect themselves, their friends and relatives from the menace and focus on education to counter future challenges effectively. He also asked students to cooperate with police to eliminate narcotics dens and bring drug traffickers to book. He called for organising sports and other healthy activities for students and youth. He said that integrated efforts would help to provide them with a bright and prosperous future.
