LAHORE: Multan police claimed on Thursday to have arrested a suspect involved in target killing of a businessman after allegedly taking Rs1.2 million in Jalalpur Peerwala. Businessman Irshad Sangi was shot at and injured by unidentified motorcyclists outside Women Postgraduate College Jalalpur Peerwala on Dec 16, 2024. He was taken to a nearby hospital but he succumbed to his injuries. Police registered the case and started investigation. Multan City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar took immediate notice of the incident and formed investigation teams to apprehend the suspects. During a press conference, CPO Dogar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Kamran Ali Khan, and SSP Investigation Rana Muhammad Ashraf provided details about the case. The main suspect, Kamal, was arrested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Raids are ongoing to capture the remaining suspects, including driver Shaukat Ali, business partner Shoukat Khan, and his nephew Irfan and Munir Ahmad. Initial investigations revealed that the deceased’s brother, Sajjad Hussain, was a partner of Shoukat Khan in Saudi Arabia, where they operated a joint scrap business. Sajjad Hussain sent money to his younger brother, Mr. Sangi, who used it to purchase land. After Sajjad Hussain’s death, Shoukat Khan claimed a share of the money sent by his brother, which Mr. Sangi refused to give. In retaliation, Shoukat Khan allegedly hired Kamal, a target killer from KP, to murder Mr. Sangi. Shoukat Khan’s driver, Shaukat Ali, his nephew Irfan, and Sajjad Hussain’s brother-in-law Munir Ahmad were also implicated in the plan and provided Rs1.2m to Kamal for the killing. CPO Dogar said Munir Ahmad suspected Mr. Hussain of poisoning his first wife, who died of an ailment, and sought revenge by assisting in Mr. Sangi’s murder. Further investigation is under way.
