PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Friday granted protective bail to two PTI leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omer Ayub Khan and MNA Faisal Amin Khan, in cases registered against them until Dec 19. A bench consisting of Justice Wiqar Ahmad and Justice Dr Khurshid Iqbal directed law-enforcement agencies not to arrest the two petitioners in any of the cases registered against them. It directed both petitioners to approach the relevant courts by Dec 19 in the cases which they were aware of. The bench also sought details from the federal government and its law-enforcement agencies to provide details of cases against the petitioners. It also directed the petitioners to approach the relevant high courts to obtain details of cases registered against them in other provinces. Advocate Alam Khan Adenzai appeared for both the petitioners and contended that scores of fabricated cases had been registered against them on political grounds. He said that around two dozen cases were registered against Mr Omer following the Oct protest in Islamabad and now many more cases were registered after the recent Islamabad protest. The lawyer said that Mr Omer was also a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan. He contended that the petitioners had not been informed about the cases registered against them. The counsel said that the petitioners wanted to approach the relevant courts but they apprehended their arrest. With the permission of the bench, Mr Omer addressed it, insisting that the security personnel had resorted to straight firing on him and other protesters in Islamabad. He pointed out that so many bogus cases had been registered against him and in one of the cases they were charged for motorcycle theft. He requested the bench to allow him more time for appearance before relevant courts as there were cases in large numbers. Additional attorney general Sanaullah Khan requested the bench to issue directives to the petitioner to appear before the relevant courts. He said that reports had come in from those areas that after getting protective or transit bails from the high court they had not been appearing before the relevant court and instead again appearing in the high court for extension in their bail period. Mr Omer said that he had regularly been appearing before the courts and the AAG could check it from records.
