KARACHI: The lawyers wing of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on Wednesday took out a rally against the proposed constitutional court and asked the federal government to immediately notify the apex court’s senior puisne judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as the chief justice of Pakistan. Insaf Lawyers Forum’s members marched on the Supreme Court Karachi registry from the Sindh High Court to record their protest. ILF-Karachi president Zahoor Mehsud said that CJP Qazi Faez Isa was set to retire on Oct 25, but a notification for Justice Shah as next chief justice had not been issued yet. The lawyers condemned the promulgation of the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Amendment Ordinance and subsequent decision of the CJP to replace Justice Munib Akhtar from the bench formation committee. They were of the view that the proposed constitutional court was aimed at clipping the powers of the apex court and undermine the independence of judiciary.
