SHANGLA: Teachers and members of civil society here on Wednesday demanded of government and relevant authorities to put an end to use of unfair means and cheating in examinations of educational boards. Addressing a meeting in Barkana area of Kana tehsil, they said that cheating and use of other unfair means in examinations had negative impacts on future of students. Educationists and members of civil society from the entire district attended the meeting. The principal of government higher secondary school Shahpur, Iftikhar Ahmad Khan, the former principal of centennial model school Alpuri, Sultan Sikandar, Hasina Khan, Altaf Hussain, Advocate Majedullah, Hussain Ahmad, Hayat Mohammad, Ijaz Matloob, Shakel Khan, Hamidullah, Akbar Nawaz, Asadullah and others addressed the meeting. They criticised teachers and officials of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Swat for their failure to prevent cheating in examinations. They alleged that some teachers provided cheating material to students during examinations. They said that private schools collected money from students to arrange food parties for examination staff. Sultan Sikandar alleged that teachers bribed officials of boards for deployment in examination halls. “Recently a teacher in Kuz Kana was caught by inspector when he was providing cheating material to students. I was inquiry officer in the matter and we punished him according to rules but this curse should end now for the sake of our children’s future,” he added. Iftikhar Ahmad said that hardworking and talented students were deprived of high marks when others were allowed cheating in the examinations. Hasina Khan said that teachers made efforts to prepare and polish their students for getting high marks and positions in board examinations. “After the results are announced, our students say that they have not gotten the desired marks because we are unable to buy the examination staff,” she added. Advocate Majeedullah said that committees of educationists and civil society members should be formed at tehsil level in Shangla to create awareness among parents, teachers and students and curb cheating in examinations. The participants of the meeting said that the district committee would urge the board chairman to deploy honest teachers in examination halls after thorough scrutiny.
