Fraud gang busted for duping women seeking BISP funds

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Satellite Town police in Jhang booked six members of a gang for extorting money from women under the pretense of facilitating their access to the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) funds. Complainant Shumaila Abbas from Lohlayshah locality said in her FIR, registered under section 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code, that Muhammad Imran of Gojra Chak 359-JB led the gang. They reportedly visited various Jhang localities and promised women a monthly BISP stipend of Rs12,000, ration supplies and dowry grants for their daughters’ marriages. Mr Abbas said the gang asked the women to visit a house in Satellite Town, where they collected Rs5,000 and CNICs from each woman before vanishing. The Jhang police spokesperson said suspects Muhammad Imran and Saqlain Abbas have been arrested, while efforts to arrest the remaining accomplices are underway.
