Conference at Governor’s House to focus on religious tolerance

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said that a national conference of religious scholars will be organised soon at Governor’s House. He was talking to chairman of Ruet-i-Hilal Committee and Imam of Badshahi Mosque Lahore Maulana Syed Mohammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, who visited Governor’s House on Monday. The meeting was also attended by leaders of London-based Pakistani businessmen. During the meeting, various national and religious issues were discussed with a special focus on importance and implementation of decrees issued under the Paigham-i-Pakistan initiative. The meeting stressed the need for joint efforts to promote national unity, harmony, and sectarian tolerance. He said Governor’s House was opened to people to address their issues. He said that Governor’s House was taking practical steps to promote interfaith and inter-sect tolerance. He announced that a national conference of religious leaders would be organised soon at Governor’s House. Maulana Azad praised the governor for holding public days at Governor’s House. He also appreciated the practical steps being taken to promote inter-sect harmony. He said that the conference focused on religious tolerance would be organised by Ruet-i-Hilal Committee at Governor’s House in Peshawar. He also paid tribute to late prime minister Zulfiar Ali Bhutto for his services to Pakistan and Muslim world. The governor recognised Maulana Azad’s services and presented a special shield and gifts to him. Meanwhile, a special senate meeting of Lakki Marwat University was held at Governor’s House. The meeting was chaired by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. It reviewed recommendations of Governor Inspection Team’s inquiry report regarding the university. The university’s institutes and business rules were also presented for approval. A committee including Higher Education Commission, higher education department and university staffers was tasked to review the future of 5,000 students affected by illegal affiliation of 35 colleges. The committee will compile its report within one month. The meeting also decided to send the inquiry report’s recommendations, covering asset distribution, faculty appointments and compliance with HEC guidelines, to the university syndicate for review. Similarly, the second open day at Governor’s House was held and Mr Kundi listened to the grievances of people. During the event, people from various parts of the province presented their concerns, ranging from administrative issues to local development needs. The governor assured them that their issues would be addressed promptly.
