Cotton arrivals surge but quality challenges remain

ABBOTTABAD: Construction of a culvert on the main Karakoram Highway in front of the Ayub Teaching Hospital Complex poses a serious threat of flooding to the health facility in the event of rains. This was pointed out in a letter the hospital’s director wrote to the National Highway Authority. The letter pointed out that construction of a culvert on the main Karakoram Highway near the gate no 5 of the hospital should be stopped till fixing of a faulty drain going along the highway. The letter said that due to ongoing construction of culvert there was possibility of flooding in torrential rains, and water might damage key buildings, including the mother and childcare hospital, cancer hospital, nursing college and paramedical school. Hospital’s director Dr Daud demanded of the NHA officials to first fix the faulty drainage system built along the KKH before constructing the culvert. He said whenever there was heavy rain floodwater damaged the hospital wards, especially emergency and cardiac unit, as well as the hostels.
