LAHORE: A Punjabi comedy play was staged at the Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall, on Wednesday night to entertain and welcome the Sikh yatrees (pilgrims) who are here to participate in Baba Guru Nanak’s 555th birthday celebrations. The event was organised on the direction of Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bukhari. The Sikh pilgrims thoroughly enjoyed the Punjabi comedy play, Sanjha Punjab, featuring leading comedians. Speaking on the occasion, Lahore Arts Council (LAC) Board of Governors Chairman Razi Ahmed welcomed the Sikh visitors. He said through this recent visit a message of love and peace had been sent. He announced that the event organised to welcome the visiting Sikhs would be the annual feature from now onward at the Alhamra Art Centre. In her address, Ms Bukhari said some outdoor activities had also been planned for the visitors, but due to the smog such events had to be cancelled. She hoped the Sikh pilgrims enjoyed their trip to Lahore, as the city had a great cultural significance. Minorities Minister Ramesh Arora thanked the culture minister for organising such a colourful event for the guests. He also lauded Razi Ahmed for making great arrangements to welcome the Sikh visitors. The evening was conducted by Syeda Naima Kazimi.
