MANSEHRA: The traffic police have removed a large number of pressure horns, modified silencers and other gadgets from vehicles that contributed to environmental pollution in the district. “We have seized a large number of pressure horns and modified silencers that caused environmental pollution during a noise-free environment operation launched across the district,” traffic in-charge Mohammad Siddique told reporters here on Monday. He said that the crackdown was launched on the orders of district police officer Shafiullah Khan Gandapur. He said that a large number of such gadgets were seized from vehicles in different parts of the district. “We have also fined drivers and motorists, and warned others against installing modified silencers and pressure horns in their vehicles as the use of these gadgets significantly polluts the environment,” Mr Siddique said. He added that a crackdown on vehicles using tinted glass and riders without helmets was also underway in parts of the district. “We removed tinted papers and glasses from dozens of vehicles, and fined several drivers in Shinkiari, Oghi, Balakot and other areas of the district,” Mr Siddique said. Though he said effective measures taken by the police had helped reduce the incidence of underage driving, such cases still existed and traffic wardens were taking strict legal action against such violations on roads. “We have seized motorcycles driven by young boys and summoned their fathers or guardians to ensure they do not engage in this illegal practice again for the safety of their own and others,” Mr Siddique said.
