KARACHI: An industrial worker was shot dead by street criminals in Orangi Town on Monday morning, police said. They said that Muhammad Fayaz, 40, was killed at Hazara Chowk within the remit of the Pirabad police station. SSP-West Tariq Illahi Mastoi told Dawn that Fayaz had left home at around 6am for work. When he reached Hazara Chowk, two armed men riding a motorcycle emerged there. They held him at gunpoint and snatched his cell phone. The SSP said that Fayaz put up resistance and the robbers opened fire and rode away. The victim suffered critical bullet wounds and was taken to a nearby private hospital from where he was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police said that the victim worked at a textile mill. The SSP said that investigators collected one spent bullet casing from the crime scene.
