Gunman killed, two injured in ‘encounter’

NAROWAL: In a reported police encounter in Sialkot, one alleged robber was killed, two were injured, and three fled. According to complainant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Khurram Shehzad, he was on patrolling duty on Thursday night when he received a call that motorcycle-riding robbers had stolen a motorcycle, cash and a mobile phone from Muhammad Ali. The Beguwala police station team blockaded Kakey Chak Bridge. Soon, suspicious motorcyclists arrived there but fled upon seeing the police. The robbers abandoned their motorcycle and opened fire on the police team, who reported the situation to the control room. Soon, reinforcement teams arrived and they asked the suspects to surrender, but they kept on running taking the cover of firing. During the pursuit, the police found two robbers injured and one dead. The injured, identified as Imran Ali Baloch and Jamu Khan from Kundkot of Kashmore, were shifted to Sambrial Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment. The deceased was identified as Ramzan Baloch from Kashmore. The police found on them cash, mobile phones, motorcycles and illegal weapons. Three suspects escaped under cover of darkness. District Police Officer Rana Umar Farooq said the police were after the absconders. An FIR was registered under sections 302, 324, 353, 148, 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code. A nine-foot-long snake was killed by local villagers after it appeared in the farmhouse of Anwarul Haq Chaudhry in Mehtpur, Shakargarh. The snake caused panic among the farm employees. Despite repeated calls to the wildlife department, no response was received. Alarmed by the situation, villagers killed the snake.
