ATC judge declares two PTI parliamentarians absconders in May 9 case

TOBA TEK SINGH: Faisalabad’s Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Javed Iqbal Sheikh declared two PTI parliamentarians, both brothers, as proclaimed offenders on Friday for their continuous absence from hearings of a case registered under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. The cases against MNA Ali Afzal Sahi and MPA Junaid Afzal Sahi, both from Chak Jhumra, Faisalabad, were registered on May 9, 2023, for their alleged involvement in riots following PTI founder Imran Khan’s arrest. Sources say the duo, who had secured bail before arrest, went abroad months ago, and their current whereabouts remain unclear. Five PTI activists sentenced to two years by a military court for their role in the May 9, 2023, attack on the ISI building in Faisalabad were released on Friday after their mercy petitions were accepted. The released people include Laeeq Ahmad, Amjad Ali, Muhammad Ali, and Muhammad Suleman from Faisalabad and Hamza Tatla from Gojra. They have now returned to their homes. Two brothers -- Asif Ali Shah and Ashir Ali Shah -- were killed in a retaliatory attack in Chak 73-RB, Karyanwala, Faisalabad, on Thursday. According to the Khurrianwala police, the deceased were involved in a murder case related to a rival group. They were critically injured in the attack and succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to Khurrianwala Rural Health Centre. A man died after he slipped and fell on rail track and train crushed him at Pirmahal on Friday. Reports Shahid Nazar died he slipped onto the tracks while talking to relatives near the Ravi Express train bound for Lahore from Shorkot Cantonment. Also at Pirmahal, robbers shot dead a motorcycle rider on Friday. Reports said deceased Safdar Ali was intercepted by dacoits on Pirmahal-Darkhana Road but he sped his bike over which outlaws opened fire on him as a result he was injured and shifted to THQ hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The Department of Communication at The University of Faisalabad organised a workshop on the importance and practicality of digital photography on Friday. Internationally acclaimed photojournalist Muhammad Tahir, International Photographic Council gold medalist. Tahir educated students about the importance of digital photography and how digital photography can be done in a practical way. He also discussed camera techniques. He apprised them that in the modern era, in the form of photography, you can make career. Mr Tahir emphasised using photography to positively represent institutions and Pakistan. Lecturer Awais Sattar and others also addressed the event. A fire destroyed two coaster buses near the Suzuki Motor Company showroom on Canal Road, Faisalabad, on Friday. Reports said the fire began in a Masood Textile Mills coaster bus due to an electrical short circuit when the driver started the engine. The flames spread to another adjacent coaster bus. Rescue 1122 firefighters extinguished the fire, but both buses were completely damaged.
