ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Poland Maciej Pisarski on Thursday congratulated Pakistan on its election to the UN Security Council for 2025-26, expressing confidence in Pakistan’s contributions to global peace. Speaking at a briefing on topics of mutual interest and recent developments in Poland-Pakistan relations, Maciej Pisarski said that for over six decades the two countries had upheld a cooperative and respectful relationship rooted in shared values, including sovereignty and territorial integrity. Key moments of solidarity, such as the evacuation of Pakistani students from Ukraine, emphasised the nations’ mutual support during crises. “Bilateral trade between the two countries has seen remarkable growth, increasing from €456.74 million in 2018 to €861 million in 2023. Notably, the Polish Oil and Gas Company/Orlen Group have invested over $450 million in Pakistan, pioneering unconventional gas exploration since 1997. “With future projects underway, investments are poised to double in the coming years,” he said. The ambassador underscored the nation’s unwavering commitment to fostering strong bilateral relationships, advancing international peace, and addressing critical global challenges. He highlighted Poland’s evolving partnership with Pakistan, its resilience in economic growth, and its dedication to security and humanitarian efforts. The envoy said Poland’s economic success stood as a testament to its transformative policies and determination. Since 1989, its GDP has outpaced many global economies. “By 2025, GDP is projected to grow by 3.4 percent, solidifying Poland’s status as a robust economic power,” he said. Speaking about the Ukraine crisis and European security, he said Poland remains resolute in its support for Ukraine amidst Russia’s aggression. The ambassador condemned Russia’s escalation, including the involvement of North Korean troops, labelling it a colonial war. “Poland has dedicated over 4.91 per cent of its GDP to military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine, providing critical supplies and assistance. Addressing the Belarusian-induced migration crisis, he highlighted the hybrid warfare tactics threatening European stability. In collaboration with EU partners, Poland is working to secure its borders while maintaining humanitarian principles, he said. Referring to humanitarian efforts in the Middle East, he pointed out that Poland had extended significant aid to Palestine, contributing $5 million in 2024 alone. “Its support reflects a commitment to peace and the two-state solution,” said Maciej Pisarski. On the EU leadership in 2025, the ambassador said as Poland prepared to assume the EU Council presidency, its agenda centred on bolstering European security, defence and resilience against external threats, alongside enhancing EU-Nato collaboration. “Poland’s vision for a secure and prosperous global community remains steadfast, ensuring its pivotal role on the international stage,” the ambassador said.
