Six booked for torturing elderly man to death

OKARA: A man along with two sons and three unidentified accomplices was booked for torturing the father-in-law of his daughter to death at village Manna Khagga near Basirpur. As per first information report, Muhammad Nazim was married to Abbas’s daughter Yasmin. About two weeks back, Yasmin had some fight with her in-laws and started living at her parents’ house in the same locality. Yasmin’s father Abbas, along with sons Usman Shaloo and Nadeem and three unidentified accomplices reached Yasmin’s in-laws house, carrying clubs, rods and bricks and tortured her husband Nazim, brother-in-law Muhammad Khan and their elderly father Ghulam Muhammad. All were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Haveli from where Ghulam Muhammad was referred to the DHQ Hospital Sahiwal. He underwent a surgery but succumbed to his injuries on Dec 31. On the report of Muhammad Khan, Basirpur police registered a case against six people, including Abbas, his both sons and their accomplices. Rescue 1122 received an average 152 emergencies per day with a total of 55,598 in the year, said District Emergency Officer (DEO) Engineer Ihtisham. He said 1,567 people were killed on the spot. Among the emergencies there were 12,113 road incidents, 36,710 medical emergencies, 619 fire incidents, 1,513 crime-related, five drowning and 4,638 emergencies were miscellaneous. In response to emergencies, 19,282 persons were given first aid and 32,813 were shifted to the hospitals across the district. Properties worth Rs540m were saved during the 619 fire incidents, the reason for fire incidents included short circuit in 192 cases and carelessness in 268 incidents. The rescue motorbikes service maintained 3.74 minutes response time in 25,193 persons incidents. The DEO further said that during new year 2025, their target would be to attract the maximum persons for the Pak Life Saver Programme and Community Emergency Response teams to help out the ailing human beings voluntarily along with Rescue 1122. He appealed to the general public to avoid making unnecessary calls on helpline 1122.
