ISLAMABAD: The Austrian ambassador of Mrs. Andrea Wicke hosted an evening of music to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Asian Study Group. As Patron of the ASG, ambassador Wicke commemorated the community of volunteers and members that forms the Group. The evening featured performances by Ustaad Raees Ahmed and Amoos Ali, who enthralled the audience with their renditions of classical music and fusion pieces that epitomized the essence of cross-cultural engagement and growth. Ambassador Wicke said, “We are privileged to honour this legacy with the presence of two exceptional musicians who embody the spirit and richness of Asia’s musical heritage. “Over half a century ago, the Asian Study Group began as a vision to unite people beyond borders and boundaries, to explore and cherish the rich and diverse cultural tapestry of Asia. “What started as a modest initiative has evolved into a vibrant, thriving community—one that passionately celebrates the arts, heritage, and traditions of this extraordinary continent.” She added, “As we reflect on this incredible journey, we celebrate the countless initiatives, programmes, and collaborations that have made the Asian Study Group a beacon of cultural exploration. It has not only deepened our connection to Asia’s history and traditions but also strengthened friendships and partnerships across its members and supporters.” Mrs. Perveen Malik, President of the Asian Study Group, expressed her appreciation of Ambassador Andrea Wicke’s patronage. She said, “We are immensely grateful to our Patron, Ambassador Mrs. Andrea Wicke, for her steadfast encouragement and support. This evening’s success is a testament to the collective spirit of the Asian Study Group, and we are proud to have celebrated this milestone in such a meaningful way.” Ustaad Raees Ahmed, is a maestro of the violin and a recipient of the prestigious Pride of Performance award, whose mastery of the centuries-old instrument paired beautifully with the skill of Amoos Ali, a brilliant tabla player, whose rhythm and artistry made the fusion pieces particularly evocative. Beginning with the Raag Bhopali and moving on to old favourites by Muhammad Rafi and Iqbal Bano, the pair also performed a Mozart symphony, a fitting tribute to an event hosted at the Austrian residence. From Bollywood classics to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s qawali, the event was truly enchanting. The celebration of music was followed by a lovely meal drawing from the cuisines of Austria and Pakistan. The volunteers and members of the Asian Study Group expressed their delight at the wonderful event.
