Pakistan, Belarus discuss enhancing ties in matters of legal affairs

ISLAMABAD: A meeting between Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and Belarusian Minister of Justice Kovalenko Evgeny took place on Monday, setting the stage for enhanced bilateral relations in the field of justice and legal affairs. The meeting was conducted in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation, with both leaders expressing a strong commitment to strengthening ties between their nations. According to the statement issued by the Minstry of Law and Justice, discussions covered an array of critical issues, including the digitalisation of the legal system, capacity building for legal professionals, legislative drafting and fostering international cooperation. Minister Kovalenko Evgeny outlined the scope and responsibilities of Belarus’ Ministry of Justice, identifying opportunities for collaboration. The dialogue centered on several shared interest including development of International Mediation and Arbitration Centres (IMAC), Implementation of Case Assignment and Management Systems (CAMS), exchange programmes for bar councils and legal professionals, enhancing legal education and awareness. Both sides acknowledged the importance of these initiatives in modernising their respective legal systems and facilitating a more robust framework for international cooperation. The meeting culminated in several noteworthy developments. An invitation extended by the Belarusian minister for a delegation from Pakistan to visit Belarus was warmly welcomed by Tarar. A comprehensive review of previous treaties and agreements was presented, laying the groundwork for future partnerships. Both ministers expressed eagerness to collaborate on capacity building and legal education initiatives, envisioning an active exchange of expertise and resources.
