RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi police have revealed harrowing accounts of a suspect’s alleged murder of his 35-year-old cousin, claiming that the suspect has reportedly admitted to committing the crime. According to police sources, the suspect allegedly called his cousin Sheikh Mohsin to his Adiala Road house in Rawalpindi, shot him dead, dismembered his body and dumped his remains in a deserted area. The police cited monetary greed as the motive behind the murder. The victim, who is survived by a four weeks old daughter among others, went missing on December 25, 2024, and never returned. The suspect, a butcher by profession, was arrested by the police early this month after the police launched an investigation into the missing case. The case was registered on the complaint of Sheikh Mohammad Ashraf, a resident of New Lalazar Colony, on December 26, 2024. According to the complainant, Mohsin carried Rs4.5 million when he left for his cousin’s house on Adiala Road. The accused was produced before the court of a magistrate on Saturday following his arrest. The court remanded him into police custody for three days. However, after three days of the physical remand, the police requested the court of magistrate Judge Jahanzeb Aman Hafeez to extend the remand as the police had to make recovery of the reportedly missing amount. Upon this, the court extended his physical remand till January 10, 2025. The police further revealed that the alleged killer was arrested after “a significant change in his lifestyle following the victim’s murder”. During interrogation, the accused allegedly made horrific revelations. The police on the suspect’s lead also recovered the victim’s special vests – which business people usually wear to keep money – hidden under a stone, sources said. They said Rs500,000 were recovered from Mehr’s house, while another Rs200,000 , which the accused lent to various customers were also recovered. Further investigation into the case was under way.
